What do Big Brothers & Big Sisters do?

The Big Brother Big Sister programs aim to assist children and youth with their physical, social, cultural, and spiritual growth. Our interaction with Little Brothers and Sisters allows us to:

Help children meet their basic needs
Attend to their health and well-being
Further their growth and development
Encourage them to achieve their full potential

The Big / Little relationship is a one-to-one friendship that involves no financial commitment to the Little Brother/Sister or her family. In Fact, some of the best activities are low-cost and spontaneous. As a Big Brother or Sister, all you are asked to give is your time. You will be amazed at the difference you make in the life of a child by volunteering for only a few hours a week and how enriched your life becomes in the process.

Becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister

A Big Sister Big Brother / Little Brother Little Sister relationship can be a challenging and very rewarding experience. It is an opportunity for personal growth and development for both the Big and Little.

The application and screening process can take up to a few months to complete, because of the screening precautions taken. References are contacted, a doctor's clearance is obtained and a criminal reference check is done on the applicant and any other adults living in her home. Once all necessary documentation has been received, an interview is scheduled with the applicant in her home.

You can start the process by downloading one of the following Big Brother Big Sister application forms below, filling it out, and contacting our executive director, Darlene Jamieson. You can contact her by e-mail, by phone, or in person; just see our contact information.
